TRANSFORMATION OF COMMONWEALTH PIER FEATURED ON NEW ENGLAND’S MOST POPULAR TV SHOW
Chronicle shined a spotlight on the history and transformation of Boston’s iconic waterfront property, Commonwealth Pier.
Pembroke’s Andy Dankwerth was interviewed for the TV segment and shared the story of a project that was in the works for a decade, highlighting these headlines:
- The problem solving required to advance this project through the pandemic and afterwards, as people’s thoughts on placemaking evolved.
- The vibrant history of Commonwealth Pier which has had cycles of life as a global port of commerce, an entry point to the United States for immigrants, housing for soldiers during World Wars I and II, and the property’s most recent chapter as the Seaport World Trade Center.
- Transforming what had become a series of vacant warehouse spaces into a vibrant place that’s about connections—with the waterfront, the expanding Seaport neighborhood, Harbor Walk and one another.
- Enhancing a destination for people with a large public plaza, green spaces, art, thoughtful waterfront seating and restaurants and retail.
- Prioritizing sustainability and resiliency to future-proof this property for many decades to come.
Energy will continue to escalate at Commonwealth Pier through the summer, as Tall Ships will dock there to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a new Harbor Loop ferry will connect Commonwealth Pier to Lovejoy Wharf and Logan Airport, the Museum of America Finance opens with free admission in July, new restaurant and retail continue to open, and art programming begins in partnership with the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA).
