Daniel BurenAttrape-soleil

In 1967, French Conceptual artist Daniel Buren abandoned the studio. Since then, he has worked in public spaces, adding joyful color, patterning, and his distinctive vertical striping to billboards, boats, and city walls worldwide.  Attrape-soleil is a large sun-catcher, part of a series of pergolas by Buren that investigate light, shadow, the movement of the sun, and the surrounding architecture.  Viewers are an integral component of the piece, adding their shadows and bathing in the colored light. Attrape-soleil is a testament to the ways that the simplest elements – light, color, and form – can transform space and our experience in it.
